Fake Data Generator

Generate realistic-looking fake data for testing, development, and mockups.

Note: All data is generated client-side for testing purposes only. Credit card numbers are randomly generated and not valid. Do not use generated data for fraudulent purposes.

Introduction

Developers and QA engineers constantly need realistic test data — a hundred user accounts for load testing, a thousand order records for pagination debugging, or ten thousand rows for database benchmarking. Using real production data violates privacy regulations, and hand-crafting sample data is impractical beyond a few dozen rows. A fake data generator produces statistically realistic but entirely synthetic records at scale, filling databases, spreadsheets, and API mock servers with data that looks and behaves like the real thing.

What Is Fake Data Generator?

A fake data generator creates randomized but plausible data records following user-defined schemas. You specify the fields you need — first name, last name, email, phone, address, company, job title, credit card number, IBAN, date of birth — and the tool fills each field with values drawn from locale-aware dictionaries. Names follow the cultural conventions of the selected locale, email addresses use realistic domain patterns, and phone numbers conform to the correct national format including country code and area code structure.

The generator supports over 30 data types organized into categories: personal (name, gender, birthday, SSN), contact (email, phone, address), location (city, state, country, coordinates, zip code), commerce (product name, price, department, SKU), finance (credit card, IBAN, Bitcoin address, transaction amount), and technical (IP address, MAC address, user agent, URL, database column type). Each type produces values in the correct format: credit card numbers pass the Luhn checksum, IBANs have valid country codes and check digits, and email addresses have properly structured local and domain parts.

Output is available in multiple formats: JSON array of objects for API mocking, CSV for database imports, SQL INSERT statements for direct database seeding, and a formatted table for visual inspection. You can generate a single record to test a form, or produce 10,000 rows in a downloadable file for performance testing. Seed values can be locked to produce reproducible data across runs, which is essential for automated test suites that need deterministic results.

Key Features of Fake Data Generator

  • 30+ data types across personal, contact, location, commerce, finance, and technical categories
  • Multi-locale support with locale-aware names, addresses, phone formats, and currency conventions
  • Custom schema builder where you select and order the exact fields your application requires
  • Output formats: JSON, CSV, SQL INSERT statements, and formatted HTML table
  • Batch generation of up to 10,000 records with one-click download as a file
  • Reproducible output using a seed value so test suites produce the same data across runs
  • Format-validated values: credit cards pass Luhn checks, IBANs have valid check digits, emails have real domain patterns

How It Works

1

Choose Your Data Fields and Format

Select the types of data you need from categories like names, emails, addresses, phone numbers, dates, and custom fields. Configure the output format as JSON, CSV, or SQL insert statements depending on how you plan to load the data into your testing environment.

2

Set the Number of Records and Generate

Specify how many rows of fake data you need, from a handful for manual testing to thousands for load testing. Click generate and the tool instantly creates realistic-looking records with proper formatting, valid email structures, and geographically consistent address combinations.

3

Copy or Download the Generated Dataset

Preview the generated data in the output panel to confirm it meets your requirements. Then copy it to your clipboard or download it as a file in your chosen format, ready to import into your database, seed script, or test fixture.

Who Uses This

QA Engineers

generating large datasets of realistic user records for database seeding before running end-to-end test suites, ensuring that the test environment closely mirrors production data patterns without using any real customer information

Frontend Developers

creating mock API response data with realistic names, avatars, and addresses for prototyping user interfaces before the backend API is available, avoiding the temptation to use real user data from production

Database Administrators

populating development and staging databases with synthetic records for performance testing, generating thousands of rows with varied data patterns to simulate realistic query loads and index behavior

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the generated data truly random and unique?
The generator uses a pseudo-random algorithm with proper seeding to produce varied, non-repeating records. While the data looks realistic, it is entirely synthetic and does not correspond to any real individuals, which is essential for privacy compliance.
Can I customize the format of specific fields like phone numbers?
The tool generates data following standard US formats by default. Phone numbers follow the standard ten-digit pattern, and addresses use realistic city-state-zip combinations. Custom locale or format options may be available depending on the configuration.
Is it safe to use generated data in production?
Fake data is designed for development, testing, and demonstration purposes only. It should never be used in production environments because the synthetic records may coincidentally match real identities, and the data lacks the relationships and constraints of genuine production data.
