Introduction

Discord embeds pack structure, color, images, and inline fields into a single rich message — but hand-writing the JSON by hand is error-prone and the 25-field limit is easy to exceed. Embed Builder gives you a visual editor that produces valid Discord embed payloads you can drop straight into a webhook request, bot code, or message-edit API call.

What Is Embed Builder?

Embed Builder is a WYSIWYG editor for Discord's embed data structure. Discord's API accepts embeds as a JSON object with strict limits — 25 fields maximum, 1024 characters per field name, 1024 per field value, 2048 for the description, and 6000 total characters across the entire embed. The builder enforces every one of these constraints in real time, greying out the Add Field button at 25 fields and showing a red character-count warning when you approach a limit.

The tool exists because composing embed JSON in a text editor is a fragile workflow. A missing comma, an unescaped quote in a field value, or a stray trailing comma will cause the API to return a 400 Bad Request, and debugging that inside a bot's code is tedious. Embed Builder generates syntactically valid JSON every time, handling escaping of quotes, newlines encoded as \n, and proper null-omission for fields you leave blank.

Beyond the JSON output, the builder renders a pixel-accurate preview of how the embed will appear in Discord's dark theme. This includes the color strip on the left, the layout of inline fields into columns, and the truncation behavior of long text — details that are hard to visualize from raw JSON alone. Catching layout problems in the preview before you send the webhook request avoids the cycle of posting a test embed, deleting it, adjusting the JSON, and reposting.

Key Features of Embed Builder

  • Live character counters on title (256), description (2048), field names (256), field values (1024), footer (2048), and total embed (6000)
  • Inline field toggling that arranges fields into Discord's three-column grid just as the client renders them
  • Hex color picker with recently-used swatches and direct hex input for brand-color precision
  • Automatic JSON escaping of quotes, backslashes, and newlines so the output is safe to paste into webhook bodies or bot source code
  • One-click switch between raw JSON view and rendered dark-theme preview panel
  • Timestamp insertion button that adds the ISO-8601 footer timestamp Discord displays as relative time
  • Field reordering via drag-and-drop to arrange embed content without manually editing array indices in JSON

How It Works

1

Design Your Embed Visually

Fill in the embed fields using a form-based interface — set the title, description, color sidebar, thumbnail URL, author name, footer text, and up to 25 field rows. A live preview renders exactly how the embed will appear in Discord, so you see every change in real time without switching to a test channel.

2

Add Fields, Images, and Formatting

Stack inline or full-width fields to organize information like stats, rules, or product details. Add a thumbnail image, a full-width image at the bottom, or both. The builder enforces Discord's field limits and character caps automatically, preventing errors that would reject your webhook payload.

3

Copy the JSON or Send via Webhook

When your embed looks perfect, copy the generated JSON with one click and paste it into your bot code or use the built-in webhook sender to post it directly to a channel. The JSON output matches Discord's embed object specification exactly, so it works with any library or raw API call.

Who Uses This

Server Administrators

creating polished announcement embeds for rules, events, and updates without hand-coding JSON, ensuring every announcement in their community looks professional and on-brand

Bot Developers

prototyping embed layouts visually before writing them into bot command code, saving the tedious edit-restart-test cycle that significantly slows down bot development iteration speed

Community Managers

building consistent embed templates for weekly event posts, moderation logs, and welcome messages that keep the server looking organized and visually cohesive

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Discord's embed field limits?
An embed can have one title (256 characters), one description (4096 characters), up to 25 fields each with a 256-character name and 1024-character value, one footer (2048 characters), one author name (256 characters), and a total of 6000 characters across all content combined. The builder tracks these limits in real time.
Can I use the embed builder with my bot's code?
Yes. Copy the JSON output and use it directly with Discord.js, discord.py, or any other library that accepts raw embed objects. The JSON structure matches the Discord API specification, so you can drop it into your codebase with minimal modification.
Does the embed builder support multiple embeds in one message?
The current builder focuses on creating a single embed at a time. For messages with multiple embeds, build each one separately and combine the JSON objects in your code or webhook payload according to your library's multi-embed syntax.
